About Nina
Hong Kong violinist Nina Sin I Wong is widely recognized for her refined musical interpretation and compelling artistry, both as a soloist and chamber musician. She is the Co-Founder and Co-Music Director of the ANIMA Ensemble, and regularly appears as guest concertmaster and principal with leading orchestras such as Opera Hong Kong, Hong Kong Grand Opera, Musica Viva, and the Hong Kong City Chamber Orchestra. Nina has also served as concertmaster of the Asian Youth Orchestra and associate concertmaster at the Marvão International Music Festival Orchestra in Portugal. She frequently performs with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong
Kong Sinfonietta, and is a member of Musicus Soloists Hong Kong.
At 17, Nina made her concerto debut with the Macau Orchestra under conductor Zhang Guoyong, performing Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2. In 2022, she was the leading violinist for the world premiere of Tan Dun’s immersive opera "Purity . Transcendence." In the 2023 season, she performed as a soloist in Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with Tan Dun and the Xi’an Symphony
Orchestra. Nina has given solo recitals at the Macau International Music Festival and has been featured in the “Hong Kong Artists Series” presented by the Hong Kong Leisure and Cultural Services Department. In 2019, she made her debut as the first violinist of the quartet at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall in New York, performing at the China Now New York Contemporary Art Festival
alongside renowned artists including pianist Niu Niu, soprano Huang Ying, bass-baritone Shenyang, among others. Her international appearances also include performances at the Konzerthaus Berlin and Smetana Hall in Prague.
An avid chamber musician, Nina has participated as a young artist at the Bowdoin International Music Festival in the United States, and has also appeared at the Meadowmount School of Music, Salzburg International Music Festival, and Kent Blossom Music Festival, collaborating with musicians from around the world.
Nina’s accolades include first prizes in violin solo, concerto, and string ensemble at the 28th Macau Youth Music Competition, as well as the Cultural Bureau Grand Prize. In 2018, as a member of the Virtus String Quartet, she won second prize in the string quartet category at the Shanghai International Chamber Music Competition.
Nina holds both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where she studied under Professor Ivan Chan and was awarded scholarships throughout her studies. She later received a full scholarship to attend the Bard College Conservatory of Music in New York, where she worked with Tan Dun, Peter Wiley, and Joan Tower, and received guidance from internationally renowned musicians such as Maxim Vengerov,
Jimmy Lin, and Peter Serkin.
Dedicated to promoting both local and international musical and cultural exchange, Nina Sin I Wong is recognized as one of the most promising and influential violinists of the new generation.
